Representatives from HMGA attended the Canadian Horticultural Council’s Annual General Meeting in Quebec City on March 10-12. The participants of the meeting represented fruit and vegetable growers from across the country. Hot topics included Reusable Plastic Containers (RPC’s), labour, environmental concerns, and marketing. Problems surrounding the use and cleaning of RPCs were aired. Labour issues were discussed in relation to the new regulations for advertising and also how to streamline the process. Issues surrounding sustainability, protection for produce sellers, and pollinator health were also raised and debated. The opportunity to talk and share with horticultural growers from across Canada showed that while the list of crops is diverse, many of the issues are shared by all.
