2023 HMGA Projects

Opportunities for HMGA Growers

The HMGA Board of Directors approved work on a series of projects for the 2023 season. These projects are partially funded through OMAFRA and the aim is to enhance the sustainability of the area vegetable production. Working in this area and generating results is part of continuous improvement and is key to maintaining a strong positive image with consumers. This year the Board of Directors has asked that we make a special effort to expand participation on these projects to every member through solicitation of interest. We would like to engage at least 30 growers to participate. The project areas are:

  1. A 4R nutrient stewardship assessment led by the University of Guelph and support from the HMGA. (30 growers needed)
  2. A soil health assessment and analysis led by the Muck Crop Research Station.
  3. A plastic waste collection systems led by HMGA identified consultant. (10 growers/washing facilities)
  4. A robotic demonstration using two technologies led by HMGA (2 growers)
  5. Irrigation water quality improvements based on assessment of two approaches led by an HMGA consultant. (2 growers)
